COSMELAN® DEPIGMENTATION SYSTEM

Cosmelan utilizes a unique combination of active ingredients that regulate the overproduction of melanin in the melanocytes – the pigment producing cells in our skin. It has a dual corrective and regulatory action achieving both short and long term results by keeping hyperpigmentation under control.
There are technically two forms of Cosmelan. Which formula you choose can be discussed during consultation. The original formula does not contain hydroquinone, and the ‘MD’ formula does. The original formula delivers fantastic results, but the MD formula provides much faster results. You can expect drastic results in as little as two weeks under the CosmelanMD protocol.
Cosmelan is suitable for ALL Fitzpatrick skin types, as it does NOT produce a heat response in the skin. Asian, Mediterranean and Latin skin types will often be told to avoid laser treatments. So, if you’ve been told that you’re not a candidate for laser treatments, then Cosmelan is definitely the treatment for you!
Although Cosmelan is often used to treat melasma, it works on ALL 3 forms of pigmentation. It removes sun damage including some freckles and age spots (liver spots), as well as any post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) left over from acne.
The treatment is simple! The Cosmelan1 mask is applied in office, and must stay on the skin between 8-10 hours, as instructed. In the 2-3 months following treatment, you will apply the Cosmelan2 maintenance cream daily. The first week of the treatment is similar to your average medium-depth chemical peel. In the weeks following, you can expect redness/irritation. You should avoid doing the Cosmelan system in hotter months, or before sun excessive exposure.
